Sunday School Elves (Tomten) > help get ready for Christmas
The Swedish Heritage Festival is celebrated every year in June. Our church, originally founded by Swedish immigrants over 125 years ago, commemorates that heritage by observing this annual festival.
In Sweden, on the longest day of the year called Midsommar, there is a traditional Swedish holiday celebrating the "day that never ends" because the sun sets at around 10:00 p.m. and rises again at 2:00 a.m.
At our Swedish Heritage Festival, we have one of our largest fundraisers of the year - a BASKET RAFFLE - supporting local and international charities. We have donated to the Food Pantry, the P.A.C.T. program at Women's & Children's Hospital, and the Lighthouse Free Medical Clinic.
There were more than 80 Baskets in the 2009 Raffle plus door prizes donated by our members, our friends, and local businesses.
We also serve traditional Swedish foods and beverages (loganberry, soda, beer, wine, and "Glog"), perform folk dances accompanied by a live band, and sponsor a Swedish store.
